اَحسِن اِلّى من اَساء اِليك

Reflection on 19th Vaaz Mubarak

Saifee Masjid shall forever echo with the resounding call of اَحسِن اِلّى من اَساء اِليك, the kalam of Ali Moula,  etched in the hearts of those gathered, as Aqa Moula delivered words of Nashihat during the course of vaaz.

It intrinsic human nature not to easily forgive one who hurts and causes suffering. So how can one inculcate the noble virtue of  اَحسِن اِلّى من اَساء اِليك
On reflection and reading I have come to find that consciously practising gratitude, compassion and kindness will make one able not only to forgive but if need be, to grant ehsan what ever it need be.

Cultivating empathy will help in understanding the reason and circumstances that led the person to hurt you.

Scientific studies like Counting Blessings Versus Burdens (2003) by Emmons and McCullough and another study titled ‘ Becoming happier takes both a will and a proper way’ (2011)  by Lyubomirsky and others have proved that practising the above qualities will contribute to well being, sense of fulfillment, fostering a deeper connection with oneself and the world around us.

Sharing a few examples that come readily to mind on the subject of   اَحسِن اِلّى من اَساء اِليك

After Fateh Mecca Nabi ( SA) despite years of persecution forgave his former enemies, and granted rewards to many.

Likewise Moula Ali ( SA) on the battlefield pardoned the one who spat on his face as Moula Ali ( SA) was about to strike him dead. In so doing he did Ehsaan as the one pardoned became a Muslim and was saved from Hell Fire.

Imam Hussain ( SA) on the day of Ashura repeatedly tried to convince the wayward Umayyad’s to see the light and reason and was willing to forgive their transgression.

It is not that difficult to practice اَاَحسِن اِلّى من اَساء اِلي

Let me share a real life example that I witnessed many decades ago. A mumin bhai having a stationery and biscuit/ chocolate /games and toy shop primarily catering to a near by girls school took a K. H . Loan from a fellow mumin of Rs 5000/- to stock up on exercise books for new Academic Year.

That year the School changed its policy so that children had to buy the exercise books from school. As a result the bhai could not repay.

However, the mumin bhai who gave K.H. was very compassionate and understanding. He gave him another K.H. of Rs 20,000/- to make a showcase where 5 branded products were displayed each earning him Rs 500/- a month a total of Rs 2500/- was added to his monthly income thus and from it, in small instalments of Rs 1000/- a month he was able to repay the loan.

Yes it can be done. All one need is the WILL and FAITH in the Kalam of Ali Moula ( SA) and nasihat of Aqa Moula ( TUS)

Dua ni iltemas.
