The eight stumbling blocks that ruin the people of knowledge.
Oh, the men of knowledge, how they fall,
From their lofty perch, they crash and sprawl,
Their legacy of caution and fear,
Is lost to the stumbling blocks that appear.
Greed, oh how it blinds the eyes,
Of the wise who seek material prize,
Miserliness, the grip of wealth,
That strangles the heart and soul with stealth.
Haughtiness, the arrogance of the learned,
That makes them forget the lessons earned,
Love of praise, the desire to be adored,
That makes them forget the divine reward.
Partisanship, the bias of belief,
That blinds them to truth and causes grief,
Trying to understand beyond capacity,
That leads them to confusion and atrocity.
Flowery oratory, the art of deception,
That leads them to pride and self-conception,
Lack of modesty, the absence of humility,
That causes them to lose the sight of reality.
Lack of action, the failure to apply,
The knowledge they have gained from up high,
Oh, the men of knowledge, how they fall,
From their lofty perch, they crash and sprawl.
Let us all learn from their demise,
And avoid these pitfalls in our own eyes,
Let us seek knowledge with pure intent,
And use it for good, with righteous bent.
